Army Day 2020: Here are some interesting facts about Indian Army

January 15 is celebrated as Army Day in India. In 1949, Field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa took over as the first commander-in-chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India.

Here are some interesting facts about the Indian Army. It was formed in 1776 under the British government and they control the world's highest battlefield, the Siachen Glacier.

Indian Army has the largest 'voluntary' army in the world. India is the third-largest troop contributor to the UN with the Army participating in 43 UN missions over 57 years.

As per the global power index 2019, the Indian army is the fourth most powerful military in the world. Every year on the Army Day, a parade is organised at the Cariappa Parade ground of Delhi Cantonment.
